BROOKSVILLE (970 WFLA) -- Hernando deputies are warning you about a sextortion scam involving people in that county.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis says an individual who claims to be an attractive female sends photos of "herself" in a chatroom or on (Facebook) messenger. They convince the victim to perform sex acts on video... then threaten to send the video to friends and family if the victim doesn't send gift cards to an anonymous address in a west African nation.
The youngest victim of this scam is just 13... and deputies say the crook could pose as a woman OR a man.
