Troopers and Police Watching Roads for Labor Day

TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- It's Labor Day weekend and many of you are hitting the road. The Florida Highway Patrol is out as usual, monitoring the major highways and looking for drunk, aggressive or distracted drivers.

Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant Steve Gaskins in Tampa says they're hoping for as few tickets and crashes as possible.

"We would like for the troopers to come up 'goose eggs' with some of our arrest numbers, and some of our ticket numbers. I would love to... report that we made no DUI arrests because there were no drunks on the highway," Gaskins said.

Gaskins wants you to drive safely, be responsible and be courteous. Troopers and local law enforcement will also be looking for drowsy drivers... especially those making long trips over the holiday. September 1-10 is Drowsy Driving Awareness Week.
