St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he crashed his motorcyle early Saturday morning, St. Petersburg Police said. Robert Douglas Blume, 47, rode his Honday VTX northbound on 49th Street North approaching the curve for Sheffield lake at 23rd Avenue North just before 1 a.m. when he failed to negotiate the curve, ran across a patch of grass, lost control of the bike and it overturned, police said.
The motorcycle slid across 23rd Avenue and came to rest on a grass field in Sheffield Lake Park, according to a news release from St. Petersburg Police. Blume did not have his helmet on at the time and went to Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries. Police believe alcohol played a role in the crash, according to the release.
