Plant city, Fla. (970 WFLA)- A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper was seriously injured in a crash this morning on S.R.60 and Smith Ryals Road near Plant City.
The highway patrol says Sergeant Leif Cardwell was in his patrol car with his emergency lights flashing, warning drivers about construction work on the railroad crossing that necessitated the closing of both directions of travel.
Just before 2 am, 28 year old Amanda Casull of Valrico did not stop for the troopers car and slammed into the back of Sgt. Cardwells patrol car.
He's being treated at Lakeland Regional Hospital. The FHP says, alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
