Cops: Lutz Man Fired Shots on Clearwater Causeway

Clearwater, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A 28-year-old man from Lutz fired shots through sunroof of his car while crossing the Memorial Causeway Bridge Saturday morning, police said.

Several people called police at about 9 a.m. reporting a Volvo going west toward Clearwater Beach with a driver shooting a gun out of the car. Officers found it a few minutes later in the 500 block of South Gulfview Blvd., and arrested Jelani Dixon.

Police say he fired more than a half dozen shots from a Ruger .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun, which they recovered from the car. Numerous people walked on the bridge at the time of the shooting, but police report no injuries. Dixon faces a charge of discharging a firearm from a vehicle in public. He went to the Pinellas County Jail on $10,000 bail.
