So Long Channelside- Tampa Welcomes New Downtown Area

Under the Water Street Project, what was formerly known as Channelside Bay Plaza will undergo a full transformation. This one-acre space will become an outdoor dining experience (think 'Armature Works) featuring a  restaurants, a biergarten and a lawn for games and relaxation. Instead of Channelside Plaza, developers have announced that the space will be called 'Sparkman Wharf'.

The name pays tribute to former U.S. Rep. Stephen M. Sparkman. He is most remembered for getting congressional funds to dredge a channel in this area for Tampa’s port, helping Tampa become the flourishing waterfront city that it is today.

People are already speculating about the different events that will take place in this new space- Tampa Bay Lightning watch parties, TED talks and concerts will all have a home in the new Sparkman Wharf.

This new outdoor, waterfront destination is set to open in Fall 2018. Will you be spending your weekends there?
