Lakeland, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-The man accused of stealing three 18 packs of beer from a convenience store on North Combee Road has died. Polk County deputies say 43 year-old Rennie DeFoe, Junior, of Plant City has passed away at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center.
Investigators say DeFoe was shot by the store co-owner after walking out of the store without paying for the beer. Deputies say 22 year-old Mehedeun Hasan grabbed a pistol, chased DeFoe out of store and then shot DeFoe as he was driving away with the beer.
Hasan had been charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted 2nd degree murder. Those charges have now been upgraded to include second degree murder with a weapon.
