Riverview, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy faces a DUI charge after crashing his truck stuck in a McDonald's parking lot early Saturday, the Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies responded to the McDonald's at 9870 US-301 South at about 3:30 a.m., where they say that Jose Cruz, 31, had collided his 2011 Ford Ranger with two cement poles before getting it stuck on a cement median.
Deputies say Cruz failed field sobriety tests. After they arrested him for DUI, Cruz "provided two breath samples resulting in a BAC of .189 and .196," according to a news release from the HCSO. The legal limit in Florida is .08. Cruz remains in the Orient Road Jail.
"We remain committed to doing whatever it takes to keep our roadways safe from impaired operators," the news release quoted Sheriff Chad Chronister as saying. Cruz is suspended without pay pending an internal investigation, the release said.
