Cops: Dunedin Home Invasion Was Domestic Violence

Dunedin, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Instead of a home invader, the  teenage man who reported it is the one who accidently shot his pregnant girlfriend, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting of Naomi Rosado, 18, happened Wednesday at the home on New York Ave. she shared with Charles Tenpenny, 19, after an argument over a Facebook friend request Rosado had received, according to a news release from the PCSO.

Tenpenny admitted pointed a loaded 9mm Glock handgun with a laser sight at Rosado while she sat on the couch. He claimed that as he turned off the sight, the gun fired. The round went through Rosado's hand and into her eye, the news release said. He originally told responders that a home invader, dressed in all black clothing, shot her.

Rosado remains in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. She is about 20 weeks pregnant. Detectives say that Tenpenny tried to hang himself at a home in Dunedin Friday, and friends stopped him. Tenpenny told them that he was distraught over the accidental shooting. They arrested him on charges of aggravated assault and false report of a crime. They also Baker Acted him so that he could receive a mental health evaluation.
