Pasco County,Fla. (970 WFLA)-Break out the dive masks and snorkels! For the first time since 1994, state waters off Pasco County will be open to bay scallop harvest during a 10-day trial season starting today through July 29!
Harvest areas include all state waters south of the Hernando-Pasco county line and north of the Anclote Key Lighthouse in northern Pinellas County, as well as all waters of the Anclote River.
“Scalloping is another exceptional offering on our pristine coastline that is home to world-class flats fishing and some of Florida’s most picturesque destinations,” said Pasco Tourism Director Adam Thomas.
Scalloping Regulations and Safety:
•Scallops may be collected by hand or with a landing or dip net
•Daily bag limit: 2 gallons whole bay scallops in shell or 1 pint of bay scallop meat per person
•Maximum of 10 gallons of scallops in shell or 1/2 gallon of bay scallop meat per vessel
•Scallops must be landed within areas that are open to harvest
•Scallops may not be possessed on waters outside of areas that are open to harvest
•Properly display a divers-down flag while in the water
