Lakeland Store Owner Arrested After Shooting Robber

Lakeland, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-The co-owner of the Shell station convenience store on Combee Road, North, has been arrested after shooting a man who walked into his store and walked out with three 18 packs of beer.

Polk County deputies say the store's Mehedeun Hasan grabbed a gun and ran after the man who grabbed the beer.  Investigators say Hasan caught up with 43 year-old Rennie Defoe, Jr., of Plant City as he we getting into his car to leave.  That's when they say Hasan shot Defoe.

Defoe, who has a long list of prior felony and misdemeanor charges, is listed as critical at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Deputies say Defoe has been sentenced to prison four times and was just released last month.

The 22 year-old Hasan is charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted 2nd degree murder. Deputies say Hasan has no criminal history.
