Deputies Shoot and Kill Man in Riverview

Riverview, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Two Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputies shot and killed a man who had pointed a gun at them early Friday, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies Dannett Brennan, 31, and Joshua Berrios, 27, had answered a call from a woman who came home to find her estranged husband inside her house on Estates Del Sol Drive in Riverview. The man, identified only as white and 60 years old as of early Friday, confronted the deputies with a can of beer in one hand and a silver handgun in the other, Sheriff Chad Chronister said.

At commands to drop what he had in his hands, the man threw the can of beer over a fence, but did not drop the gun. Ignoring continued shouts to drop the gun, Chronister said, the man raised the gun and pointed it at the deputies.

The deputies opened fire, struck the man several times, and he died at the scene. Chronister said he has priors in Texas for robbery and "multiple white collar crimes." Deputy Berrios has a prior use of force incident from June 26, 2016.
