Say goodbye to these speed trap towns!

If you have ever headed north out of the Tampa area on Highway 301, you definitely have noticed around the junction of 301 and 24 in the towns of Waldo and Lawtey have always had a heavy police presence, and speed limit signs that change every few thousand feet, starting out at 65, then 55, then 45, then 35, then back up and down for a few miles.

This area has been recognized by AAA as the worst speed traps or "traffic traps" in the country. As you can imagine, the police in in the two small towns wrote thousands of tickets every year, and have been under investigation for years as you can see in the video below.

Ready for some good news? in 2014 the police force was disbanded and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office now handles the traffic enforcement duties and has stopped putting profit in front of safety. Sure, if you speed in the area they will catch you and write you a ticket, but according to AAA, they have made significant improvements and the warning to travelers has been lifted, this is the first time in 20 years the AAA has lifted warnings.

REGARDLESS of any warnings being lifted, you should ALWAYS do the speed limit!
