President Trump has chosen Judge Brett Kavanaugh as his nominee to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
The 53-year old Kavanaugh has served since 2006 as a judge on the District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals. A former clerk for Justice Kennedy, Kavanaugh was a part of the investigation into Bill and Hillary Clinton’s Whitewater land deal. He also served as an attorney for George W. Bush during the 2000 election recount and in the Bush White House.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to begin hearings soon and a confirmation vote is expected prior to the midterm elections in November.
