Hillsborough Sheriff: Elderly Hispanic women targeted in latest scam

Hillborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister is urging you not to fall victim to the latest scam.

He says it involves three individuals who approach elderly Hispanic women in parking lots, telling them they've won the lottery but can't redeem the winning ticket because they're illegal aliens.

Chronister says the suspects have ripped of at least a dozen victims to the tune of $152,000 in cash and $34,000 in jewelry.

So far, the scams have taken place in Hillsborough, Polk and Lake counties.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi urges anyone who has been a victim of this scam to contact her office without fear of deportation.

"Let me make myself very clear-- if you prey on victims, especially our seniors, you will be sorry," said Bondi.
