Cops: Teen Driving Stolen SUV Crashes in Venice

Venice, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A teenager driving a stolen SUV caused an accident that sent four people to the hospital Sunday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jaydon Meal, 16, of Nokomis, lost control of the 2004 Ford Expedition on the US-41 Bypass at the intersection of Via Venito at about 3:36 p.m., according to a news release from the FHP. A witness told State Troopers that the speeding SUV flipped as it crossed into oncoming traffic and landed on top of another SUV.

The driver of that vehicle, Mona Quinn, 61, of Osprey, went to the hospital with serious injuries. Meal suffered critical injuries. Two other boys, aged 13 and 14, riding with Meal, had serious injuries. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office had reported the SUV stolen June 4.
