Pasco Detective Leaves Gun in Restaurant Bathroom

New Port Richey, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Pasco County Sheriff's Office spent Sunday morning searching for a detective's agency-issued firearm left in a fast food restaurant bathroom.

Deputies say that a homeless man took the 40-caliber handgun from the restroom of the Burger King at 6319 US-19 in New Port Richey where a detective had left it Saturday, according to a news release.

David Scott Haney, 49, faces one count of theft of a firearm. Deputies say that security video in the restaurant showed them what the suspect looked like, and they later found Haney, and arrested him early Sunday after interviewing him.

Pasco K9 Deputy Patrick Bingham and his dog Benco located the gun in a wooded area near Oelsner Street and Green Key Beach later Sunday morning, the Sheriff's Office said.
