Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A man died while trying to cross a street when he rolled his wheelchair into the path of an oncoming car early Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers had not identified the man, who was 68 years old, whom they said tried to cross Hillsborough Ave. near Blue Springs Dr. in his wheelchair shortly before 4:30 a.m.
A 2019 Acura MDX driven by Pedro Diaz, 28, of Tampa, struck the chair that rolled into its path. The man in the wheelchair died at the scene. Diaz does not face charges in what troopers believe was a tragic accident.
