Cops: Two Die in Treasure Island DUI Hit-and-Run

Treasure Island, Fla. (970 WFLA) - One man had too much to drink and two people died because of it, said the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Nicholas Desanta, 74, and Beverly Gran, 81, died when an SUV driven by Aleem Hamid, 28, ran them down as they tried to cross Gulf Blvd. at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the PCSO.

Deputies said that Hamid, 28, drove away from the collision and that Treasure Park Police found him about an hour later. They say that Hamid appeared impaired, but refused sobriety tests.

The victims lived at the same address in Sebring. Hamid's address, according to the news release, is in Land O Lakes. He sits in the Pinellas County Jail on numerous charges, including two counts of DUI manslaughter, two counts of leaving the scene with death, and refusal to submit to a lawful test of breath, urine and blood.
