Detectives' Names Released in Fatal Polk Shooting

Dundee, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The suspect had calmly cooperated as two Polk County Sheriff's detectives interviewed him, asked to see his phone, and showed him the child porn they found on it.

They read Andres Estrada, 21, his rights, and Detective Trent Medley went into another room to call his supervisor. That's when the Sheriff's Office said that Estrada lunged from a chair and on top of Detective Christine Smith, 41, who weighed 100 lbs. less than Estrada, and started punching her.

Medley heard her screams for help, and ran back into the room. Estrada's brother had tried to pull Estrada off of Smith, to no avail. When Estrada refused Medley's commands to stop beating Smith, Medley shot him three times.Estrada died at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office says the only photo they had of Estrada was from four years ago when his family reported him missing. They say he had grown to more than 220 pounds since then.
