New hurricane season forecast reduces number of anticipated storms

There's a new, revised forecast for this year's hurricane season, which begins June 1st.

Colorado State University says it now predicts there will be 14 named storms, including Subtropical storm Alberto, six hurricanes and at two major hurricanes of category three or higher.

That's a decrease from CSU's April forecast.  Its forecasters believe a weak La Nina weather pattern that tends to fuel hurricane formation has dissipated and a weak El Nino weather pattern, which makes storm formation more difficult, may form later in the season.

Forecasters say, however, that these hurricane season outlooks can't predict where storms will form or where they'll make landfall, if at all.
