Prosecutors Will Seek Death Penalty Against Killer Of Highlands Deputy

Sebring, Fla. (970 WFLA)- State prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty against the man accused of killing Highlands County Deputy William Gentry.

Deputy Gentry was investigating a dispute in Lake Placid earlier this month when 69-year-old Joseph Ables shot him to death.

The death penalty announcement came Tuesday, after a Grand Jury indictment was handed down on charges of first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer.

He's only the third Highlands Deputy killed in the line of duty in  almost 100 years.
