TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- Oil prices are going down and that could help push gas prices lower.
Josh Carrasco with the Triple-A Auto Club Group in Tampa says there's speculation that Saudi Arabia and Russia will start ramping up production in the next few weeks.
That speculation is reflected in oil prices. Crude oil was above $73 a barrel a week ago. Now it's gone below $67 a barrel. The average price of gas in the Tampa Bay area is just under 2-89 a gallon and Carrasco says they're seeing the beginning of a downward trend, with prices dropping a fraction of a cent over the Memorial Day weekend. Prices are more than 60 cents higher than this time a year ago.
