Florida #1 for Military Retirees, Blue States Not

WASHINGTON DC (970 WFLA) -- A new survey ranks Florida as the best state in the nation for military retirees.

Analyst Jill Gonzalez of Wallet Hub says Florida's strong economy makes it easier for younger veterans separating from the services to find jobs. That's a crucial point since the average military officer is 45 at retirement. Florida's low taxes help military retirees hoping to live off their savings. Florida also ranks high for the availability of VA facilities.

Right behind Florida, are Virginia and New Hampshire.

Red states rank 12 notches better than blue states on average. At the bottom... Vermont, Oregon and Washington DC.
