Bay Area Gym Rat Busted

St.Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA)-St Petersburg Police report that over the last several weeks, someone was  stealing car keys from the locker room of local gyms.  He would use the keys to enter the victim's car and steal credit cards.  The suspect then used the stolen credit cards to buy gift cards and clothes.

Similar crimes in gyms were happening in other areas of  Pinellas county,  including Largo, and also in Hillsborough county. 

Working with detectives in Hillsborough,  investigators were able to identify the suspect as  28 year old Cody Heilig.    Wednesday  detectives arrested Heilig after finding his  vehicle in the parking lot of a local hotel. 

Detectives charged Heilig in three of the  cases so far, including crimes that occurred at  You Fit Gym on May 2nd,  Amped Gym on May 4th and at Suncoast Gym on May 11th. 

He faces 11 felony charges including:Armed Auto Burglary

Auto Burglary - 2 counts

Felon in Possession of a Firearm

Grand Theft

Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card - 3 counts 

Possession of a Stolen Credit Card - 3 counts

St. Petersburg Detectives  are investigating whether Heilig is connected to more cases and he may also face additional charges from neighboring law enforcement agencies.
