TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has filed her much awaited lawsuit against drug companies over the opioid crisis.
She says the lawsuit filed in Pasco County seeks damages from drug companies for all the money taxpayers have shelled out to cope with the opioid epidemic. Bondi says they still haven't come up with a price tag yet, but she expects it to cost them "biillions."
She says they're still talking with drugmakers to work out a settlement.
Bondi claims the pharmaceutical companies created "front groups" to push for more use of opioids as painkillers.
"They funded groups to disseminate misinformation about the use of opioids... (for) chronic pain.... and to our veterans, " Bondi said.
