PLYMOUTH, MN (970 WFLA) -- Phosphate giant Mosaic, a company whose roots in the greater Tampa Bay area go back decades, is moving its corporate headquarters to Hillsborough County.
Mosaic announced the news in a release late Monday afternoon. It says moving to the Bay area will give it the opportunity to amplify its presence in Central Florida and engage more closely with communities where its mines operate. It also brings headquarters closer to a new fertilizer operation in Brazil.
CEO Joc O'Rourke calls Mosaic one of "the largest employers and most significant corporate economic drivers" in our region.
Mosaic says it hasn't picked out a location for its new headquarters. In the meantime, it says, it's taking a second look at excess office space, including at its old HQ in Minnesota, and locations at FishHawk and Highland oaks in Florida.
Mosaic was formed in 2004 by the merger of two other phosphate businesses, IMC-Global and the fertilizer arm of Cargill.
