New Port Richey, Fla. (970 WFLA)-The Pasco Sheriff's Office released a video taken by a deputy's body cam, showing how deputies are saving the lives of overdose victims with the use of the chemical agent, Naloxone Hydrochloride or simply known as Narcan.
As of April 2018, Pasco Deputies have used Narcan 65 times since it become available to patrol officer's in March of 2017. There are currently 942 Pasco Sheriff's Office employees that are trained in the use of Narcan. 663 deputies are certified to carry individual Narcan rescue kits on their person at all times while on duty. 258 Detention/Civilians are also certified in the administration of Narcan.
Within the last thirty days, Narcan was used 5 times by Pasco County deputies on unresponsive overdose victims. Four out of the five times Narcan was successfully administered to an overdose victim, who became responsive.
The one time the deputy stated that the subject was still unresponsive after Fire Rescue personnel took over and the subject was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.
