On May 9, 1980 tragedy struck when a 600-ft cargo ship hit the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, causing a large portion of the bridge to collapse into the water.
The collapse sent seven cars and a Grey Hound bus plummeting into the water, killing 35 people.
