Largo Cop Involved in Crash, Other Driver Died

Largo, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A man died after a traffic crash involving a Largo Police cruiser Saturday night, Largo Police said.

K9 officer Thomas Dziamba was responding to a domestic violence disturbance with his vehicle's lights and siren going at about 10:15 p.m. when it collided with a Jeep Wrangler driven by Christopher Griffin.

The domestic violence incident was an emergency, Largo Police said, because the suspect in the case had kicked in the front door to the victim's home and had gone inside.

Griffin, 36, did not have his seat belt on, was thrown from the Jeep and died at the scene. Dziamba, 34, suffered serious injuries, but had gone home by Sunday morning and is expected to recover fully.

The police dog, Drax, survived the crash unharmed.
