Finally! Decades Later St Petersburg Woman's Attacker Arrested

St. Petersburg,Fla.(970 WFLA)- A St. Petersburg man is finally being held accountable for his actions, decades after sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint.

Officers with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office arrested 48-year-old Robert Lee Burton almost 26-years after he allegedly confronted a 37 year old  woman walking home from a friends house in the early morning hours of January 21st, 1993.  He walked her at gunpoint to behind a home, in the Florida Sand Mobile Home Park, where detectives say he sexually assaulted her.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says  DNA confirmed that Burton was the suspect.  Evidence was apparently collected at the time of the crime, but it wasn't until decades later that detectives were led to Burton.  Detectives interviewed him last Wednesday, he denied knowing the victim or assaulting her. Detectives charged Burton with one count of Sexual Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
