Ever since the Parkland shooting, Hillsborough County commissioners have been debating whether they can and should tighten gun laws in the county.
A proposal to ban on assault-style weapons failed to get enough support. But commissioner Les Miller says the county can amend its own ordinance to extend the three-day waiting period for gun purchases to five days.
But several citizens say waiting periods for gun buys are useless because they don't prevent unsable people from using them. They also believe local businesses suffer because customers will shop in other counties where the waiting period is only three days.
Still, commissioners voted 5-2 to extend the waiting period. Commissioners Ken Hagan and Stacy White voted against it.
