Officer Involved Shooting In Indian Shores

Indian Rocks, Fla.-(970 WFLA)- An Indian Shores Police Officer is recovering from injuries he received  this morning after he was hit by a car he had just pulled over for speeding on Gulf Boulevard, out of fear for his life, the officer fired his weapon at the suspects car.  

According to Indian Shores Police Chief Terry Hughes, around 3:15 this morning,  Officer Matthew Holm watched as two vehicles appeared to be drag racing on Gulf Boulevard, hitting speeds of 70 mph. 

The 32 year old patrolman  had the first car pulled over and soon had the second vehicle stopped.  He was just getting out of his patrol car, when the driver of the first car, suddenly accelerated towards Officer Holm striking him and knocking him to the pavement.   That's when, according to Chief Hughes, Officer Holm fired his weapon  at the suspects car.  

The suspect was not injured by the officers shots, his name has not yet been released.  Officer Holm is a three year veteran of the Indian Shores Police Department.  His injuries are considered non-life threatening.   The Pinellas County Sheriff's office is conducting the investigation.
