TRAFFIC ALERT: Part Of E. Brorein St. Closes Permanently In Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - A portion of East Brorein Street is now closed to traffic permanently.

East Brorein Street between Channelside Drive and South Nebraska Avenue closed on Sunday for roadway realignment.

The closure is part of the Water Street project in downtown Tampa.

“If we do this right over the next five years, you aren't gonna recognize this city. this project will be a major, major part of it,” said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

The Water Street project will be bringing in several hotels, offices and residential buildings. Parks will also be added. It will make the section of downtown truly a walkable area which is something Mayor Buckhorn says will bring jobs.

“You are bringing an entire neighborhood here, an entire life, work, play environment. Thousands of space for office, thousands of residential units, restaurant, retail, and commercial all focused on the water, parks. This will finalize this section of our downtown,” he said.
