School Deputy Took Down Girl 'Did Nothing Wrong'

LAND O' LAKES (970 WFLA) -- Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco says his school resource deputy did nothing wrong, during an incident caught on cellphone video, in which a Sunlake High School student was taken to the floor and placed in handcuffs in the school cafeteria.

Nocco tells reporters that the student, identified by News Channel 8 as MacKenzie Hannah, was skipping class and being disruptive. Video recorded by a student shows a school resource officer taking Hannah to the ground and placing her in handcuffs.

"She wouldn't comply," Nocco said, "and you actually see the student raising her arm and coming down towards (the SRO)... and he did an armbar takedown."

The investigation includez over eight minutes of body cam video and statements from witnesses.

Sheriff Nocco has returned the deputy to duty at Sunlake High.
