RUSKIN, Fla. (970 WFLA)- National Weather Service forecasters now say it was a small tornado that struck a mobile home park on U.S. 41 last night, doing damage to several buildings.
At first the National Weather Service blamed the damage at the Paradise Lakes Mobile Home Park, 2201 US 41 South, on straight line winds or a down burst. But now it says a shower moving onshore and convergence created an EF-0 tornado, the lowest category, just after 10 Tuesday evening. The tornado formed near the US 41 bridge over the Little Manatee River, then moved northeast into the park.
A park resident says most of the people who live in the park are elderly and disabled, she's asking area churches if they could provide volunteers to help clean up the mess the wind left behind.
