ST. PETERSBURG (970 WFLA) -- A shocking unprovoked assault at a St. Petersburg convenience store.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kolbe Wayne Smith punched a 13-year-old girl in the face and knocked her unconscious inside a RaceTrac store on 54th Avenue North Saturday afternoon, as the girl's parents were filling up the family car just outside the store.
Deputies say Smith did not know the girl.
Witnesses inside the store kept Smith from leaving the store until deputies arrived.
Deputies who eventually arrived at the scene said Smith resisted being taken into custody. Smith was hit with a taser after several deputies and a witness failed to subdue him.
During questioning, Smith admitted to taking the hallucinogenic drug LSD prior to the assault and said he had no recollection of the incident.
Smith faces aggravated child abuse and resisting an officer without violence charges, and is being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a $50,150 bond.
The girl was treated at the scene and is OK.
