Cops: Killer of Durant H.S. Football Player Caught

Hillsborough County, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Durant High School football player killed a week ago died after he tried to rip off a drug dealer, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Samuel Morrissey, Jr, 20, faces a second degree murder charge in the death of Grover Wills, 18, at a gas station on West Lumsden Road in Brandon April 15, according to a news release from the HCSO.

Morrissey met with Wills to sell him marijuana, deputies said, and Wills tried to pay for the drugs with counterfeit money wrapped inside real U.S. currency. When Morrissey noticed the fake bills, he tried to get his drugs back.

A struggle ensued, deputies said, during which Morrissey shot Wills with a .38 caliber revolver. A friend drove Wills to a hospital where he died.According to the news release, "during the investigation, Morrissey admitted he was meeting the victim for a 'transaction' in the parking lot of the gas station and admitted he shot Wills."
