Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - An early morning hit-and-run crash killed a man and left police searching for the driver blamed for causing it.
Tampa Police say they saw a Jeep driving erratically with its headlights off in the area of 22nd St. and 7th Ave. at about 2:10 a.m. When the officers tried to stop the Jeep, it sped away, according to a TPD news release.
The officers did not chase the Jeep, per department policy.
A few minutes later, the same Jeep crashed into a car at 26th St. and Columbus Ave. Two people got out of the Jeep and ran away. The driver of the car, Artemus Holley, 52, died. Police found the passenger of the Jeep a short time later, but have not located the driver, according to the news release.
