Tampa Backyard Bomb Maker Arrested

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA)- The person police say made and detonated a pipe bomb in the backyard of his Tampa home has been arrested and is facing felony charges.

The explosion created a hole the size of a basketball in the back yard of  60 year old Joseph David Caltagirone's 17th ave. home.

His roommate told Newschannel Eight that Caltagirone is an engineer and often makes rockets as a hobby, and  takes them to open fields to set them off.  This time he was attempting to set one off in his backyard when it exploded.

Tampa Police say they don't believe that Caltagirone was intending to do harm.  No one was injured. Caltagirone is charged with making, possessing, throwing, placing, projecting or discharging a destructive device.
