Lakeland, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A man riding a mobility scooter died when he rode into traffic Friday afternoon, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Willard Miller, 69, of Lakeland, rode the three-wheeled scooter along the median break of of US-98 North near the intersection with Thomas Rd. when deputies say he suddenly cut across the road.
Two vehicles managed to avoid hitting him, but a third could not, deputies said. James McNamara, 53, of Zephyrhills stopped and joined other bystanders in trying to aid Miller, but he died at the scene.
McNamara will not face any charges, according to a PCSO news release.
