Victim Identified After Being Shot By Sarasota Police

Sarasota, Fla.(Newsradio 970 WFLA)- A Sarasota police officer shot a man in the leg this morning after the suspect pulled out a gun.  

Two officers were on patrol in the 2100 block of 13th street after several  businesses and vehicles had been broken into.  The officers came upon a man riding a bicycle, when they tried to stop and ask him a few questions,  he reached into his waist band and pulled out a gun. 

According to the Sarasota Deputy Police Chief Pat Robinson , one of the officers fired several shots in self defense hitting the suspect in the leg.   The man, identified as 35 year-old Thomas Gick,  is in stable condition at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Neither officer was injured.   The officer who shot the suspect is on paid administrative leave.

The suspect's gun was later determined to be a BB gun.
