Brooksville Group Gives Service Dogs to Veterans

BROOKSVILLE (970 WFLA) -- A Brooksville group that trains service dogs for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and other issues, is holding an open house Saturday (today-tomorrow) to give the community a look at their training program.

Founder Mary Peter is a dog trainer who gave up her business to devote herself full time to serving veterans. She says we owe veterans "a place to reclaim their lives... and get better."

Peter says K9 Partners for Patriots' new facility on Aviation Loop Drive is a 20,000 square foot building. It offers features such as scenario rooms, where veterans can work with their assigned dog through potentially stressful situations such as a doctor's office. During Saturday's open house, some of the veterans who have gone through the program will demonstrate some of the training.

Peter says K9 Partners for Patriots works to rescue both the veterans and dogs, which often come from shelters.

K9 Partners for Patriots is located at 15322 Aviation Loop Drive, Brooksville, FL, near the airport off Spring Hill Drive.
