St. Petersburg, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Some excitement for the 2018 season opener for the Tampa Bay Rays as a cooking fire erupts inside Tropicana Field before the big game.
Firefighters say a cooking unit on the 300 level at the Trop caught fire and put up a lot of smoke. The big building's fire suppression system worked and extinguished the flames within minutes. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
Crews were able to clear all the smoke from the building in time for the gates to open for the game against the Red Sox.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
