New Business Brings Jobs to Frostproof

FROSTPROOF (970 WFLA) -- A big win for a small town in the far corner of Polk County.

Nucor Corporation of Charlotte, North Carolina is building a "rebar micro mill" just outside of Frostproof, after receiving a couple of million dollars in local property tax breaks and state incentives.

Nucor is putting 240 million dollars into the mill... saying demand in Florida is strong and there's plenty of scrap metal close by.

Once it opens in two years, Nucor expects to employ about 250 people with an average annual salary of $66 thousand.

Frostproof is more than 60 miles away from Tampa. The entire town was without power for a week following Hurricane Irma last year.
