Wimauma, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Someone apparently trying to unload a gun accidentally fired it instead, and shot a man in the head early Sunday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
About 15 people were at a gathering at a home on Saffold Road when the shooting from a .45 caliber pistol happened just at about 3:30 a.m., according to a news release from HCSO.
The release did not give the name of the victim, only that he is 20 years old and that he was flown to Tampa General Hospital for surgery and was in critical condition.
"At this time the shooting does not appear suspicious," the news release said, adding that, "this is an active and ongoing investigation."
