Woman Stabs Fiancé To Escape Domestic Violence

Bradenton, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A woman stabbed her fiancé to escape his attack on her early Saturday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

Charles W. Cummings, 38, and Sarah K. Potts, 41, began arguing at a home on Marilyn Ave.  when deputies say that Cummings began punching Potts while holding a knife in his other hand. Then Cummings began choking her, they said.

Potts was able to grab a small knife, stab Cummings in the leg, and run to a neighbor's house to call for help.

Cummings went to the hospital for "apparent non-life threatening injuries," according to a news release from MCSO. "Charges are pending as the investigation continues," the release said. It listed Cummings as the suspect and Potts as the victim in the incident.
