Senate Passes The Douglas High School Public Safety Act

Tallahassee, Fla. (970 WFLA)-The Florida State Senate is moving to raise the minimum age to buy a gun.

The Senate passed the "Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act," which was named after the high school in south Florida where 17 people were killed on Valentine's day.

The bill would make it illegal for anyone under 21-years-old to buy a gun and would require a three-day waiting period for most gun purchases.

The measure also establishes rules for arming some people in schools, but excludes some teachers from performing that duty, and provides them a choice to take a training class.  The bill now moves to the state house.
