Plant City, Fla.-(3/1/2018)-That new Kentucky Fried Chicken ad with Reba McEntire as Colonel Sanders may have revived her career. Reba's show was the first to sell-out here at the Florida Strawberry Festival.
Big time music artists are a big part of the berry fest, but the sweet berries are still the big attraction. Strawberry growers from all over eastern Hillsborough County are sending in truckloads of the delicious, red, berries. The shortcake is the best I've found anywhere.
I've been taking Tattoo Lady to the festival since before we had children. T.L. has won the festival's baking contest more than once. Number One Son even won the baby contest way back when.
If berries aren't for you, there is a ton of fair food. I like the Fiske Fries and the sausage sandwich. T.L. likes the giant corn dogs.
It's a family friendly event with exhibits, vendors and a giant midway with many rides. There's even one exhibit that shows you how they grow the strawberries.
I can truly say the entertainment is bigger and better with a giant new stadium on the festival grounds. I joked with T.L. that the stadium is so big that Plant City was trying to bring the Dallas Cowboys to town.
It's like the old saying "Try it and you'll like it." The Florida Strawberry Festival runs through the 11th.
