Man Had Concealed Weapon At U.S.F.

Tampa, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-An emergency notification about a person with a gun on the University of South Florida Tampa campus got the attention of students.

The alert warned of a person with a gun near the nursing building.  It warned everyone to stay away from the area.

Campus police were dispatched to the scene and did make contact with the subject of the alert.  Officers say 52 year-old Paul Palacios was there for a conference and was in possession of a concealed weapon. Palacios does have a concealed permit, but the law does not permit carrying on a school campus.

Palacios is charged with a violation of his concealed weapons license, a second degree misdemeanor. Officers took the firearm and released Palacios with a notice to appear in court.

Officers did give the all clear and say normal operations have resumed at U.S.F.
